We are committed to buying renewable energy.

A Cleaner Choice

A lot of suppliers make a big fuss about their green tariffs, but recent reports suggest most consumers are left confused about how effective or green they really all are.

At Opus Energy, we prefer a simpler approach: we endeavour to secure as much of our power as possible from cleaner electricity sources – for all our customers.

Last year, between April 2006 and March 2007, 66% of the energy supplied by Opus Energy to its customers came from cleaner, low-carbon sources – 47% from renewable generators and 19% from cleaner Combined Heat and Power (CHP) produced by CHP generators.  These CHP generators have been awarded accreditation by the regulator, Ofgem, for producing cleaner, more environmentally friendly power.  If you would like more information about where our renewable and cleaner energy came from, click here.

Our Future Commitment

As part of our commitment to help reduce climate change, we will continue to buy a significant proportion of our electricity, wherever possible, from sources which have been accredited by Ofgem as low-carbon.

Whilst we can’t guarantee that this power will be 100% renewable, it will always be from a source where the generator has demonstrated to Ofgem that it is producing cleaner or renewable electricity. To ensure this, the generator is provided with a certificate by Ofgem, which is passed to Opus and used to exempt the power supplied to our customers from the climate change levy.  We pay extra for the greener power, but this additional cost offsets the levy you would ordinarily pay.
