Canal & River Trust (formerly British Waterways) is a charity that cares for 2000 miles of waterways across England and Wales. Responsible for an expansive network of bridges, embankments, towpaths, aqueducts, docks and reservoirs, the charity works with volunteers to make Britain’s canals and rivers the best they can be.
Canal & River Trust required an energy solution that would combine cost-effective tariffs with a high level of service. There was also a significant amount of legacy data across multiple sites in the UK that needed to be reviewed, and the organisation wanted a billing solution that would enable it to manage all of its sites’ consumption information quickly and efficiently.
Canal & River Trust signed a fixed term contract with Opus Energy in October 2009.
In what areas has Canal & River Trust seen an improvement after switching to Opus Energy?
- Site administration: Opus Energy worked with Canal & River Trust at the start of their contract to cleanse their portfolio data: removing sites that the organisation was no longer responsible for and organising meter information.
- Billing: By providing Canal & River Trust with a consolidated monthly invoice that combines all sites into one, they have been able to reduce administration time and streamline billing processes.
- Savings: Opus Energy continues to supply low-cost energy to Canal & River Trust, ensuring that the company is able to save money with every bill.
- Spending accuracy: With the installation of over 400 smart meters across its sites, Canal & River Trust has the ability to accurately forecast its consumption. As bills are based on actual meter readings, there is less financial burden correcting mistakes caused by estimated bills.
Sara Lovell, Purchase to Payment Manager, Canal & River Trust: “We have worked with Opus Energy for a number of years now, and have recently renewed our contract. We have found the level of customer service provided by Opus Energy to be very good, with both the account management and billing teams being extremely effective at communicating information and taking care of our requirements.”
Gemma Riley, Account Manager, Opus Energy: “Our account management team has worked closely with Canal & River Trust right from the beginning of their contract. We started by cleansing the site portfolio and now regularly review portfolio information, such as meter reads and meter details, to ensure their account is kept up-to-date. As a result, we are able to bill Canal & River Trust as accurately as possible.”
