Levy Exemption Certificates are provided to Opus Energy for every unit of cleaner electricity that we purchase from a greener generator under the scheme. The Certificates are accredited by Ofgem and only awarded where the generator has demonstrated that the power it has produced is from a renewable source or, the case of Combined Heat and Power (CHP), that the generator produces less greenhouse gases than other stations. Whilst we pay extra for the Certificates, there is no additional cost to you. The cost of the Levy Exemption Certificate replaces the Climate Change Levy (CCL) that would ordinarily be due from a business customer.
As part of the scheme, a supplier must publish the amount of power it has supplied from CCL exempt renewable and CHP sources for averaging periods of 2 years. The table below shows Opus Energy's current estimate of these proportions for its last 2 averaging periods.

*Under the rules of the scheme, which allow the procurement of Levy Exemption Certificates over averaging periods, these figures may increase. Opus Energy will provide you with an update of these figures at the end of each accounting period as defined under the scheme.
