Opus Energy launches summer work experience programme
24th January 2020
Opus Energy is a company built on its employees, which is why we put so much focus on our Early Careers efforts – from our apprenticeship scheme to our graduate programme, we really believe in investing in our people from day one.
This summer, we were delighted to start recruiting for our first ever work experience programme.
The aim of the programme is to help young people in Northampton – where our headquarters are based – to get a foot in the door of the working world and show them what we do behind the scenes at Opus Energy.
Three fantastic students joined us for a week and spent their time rotating around some of our core teams – from Business Services, to Metering, to the Contact Centre and Customer Solutions.
As well as experiencing working life in a busy office, Saima, Damian and Matt got to spend time with Opus Energy’s Learning and Development and Early Careers teams, who gave them a taste of skill development for some crucial areas when trying to build a career: CV writing, interview techniques, workplace behaviours and presentation skills.
“The work experience programme has been great for me, as I was unsure what I wanted to do after leaving school,” commented Matt at the end of the week. “I’ve learned loads about the apprenticeship scheme and I’m now considering this as an option for next year.”
Damian commented: “I loved how kind and helpful everyone was, the work environment here is brilliant.”
“It’s been amazing to meet everyone and see their part in the company,” Saima added. “Everything was fun and interesting, and I’d definitely recommend other students take part.”
Giving back to the local community is a top priority for us, so we’re thrilled the students found the experience so rewarding. Next up, we’ll be expanding the work experience programme to our Cardiff office – our newest site with some exciting potential for Early Careers development.
