Payment FAQs

These frequently asked questions apply to current and past customers of Opus Energy.

When should I expect a call?

Those due low value refunds (less than £100) will be contacted by Phone, Email or SMS from 3 February 2025 onwards. We expect all contact attempts to be completed by 31 March 2025. Those due larger balances have already been contacted.

What phone number will you be dialling me from?

If we need you to call us back to provide more information, we’ll ask you to call us back on either 01604 343 925, 01604 236 625 or 01604 673 225.

How will I receive my payment?

We’ll ask for your bank details and process refunds by BACs only.

Why am I receiving a payment?

We’ve identified an issue, which means that you may have overpaid Opus Energy for some of your energy usage. The issue is fixed, and we’re now making sure any overpayment you may have made is returned to you. The amounts are typically low.

What payment might I be due?

We’re sending the amount that you may have overpaid plus interest. Also, where necessary, the credit will include a one off adjustments for VAT (Value Added Tax), CCL (Climate Charge Levy) and Government discount schemes (Energy Bill Relief Scheme and Energy Bills Discount Scheme) to make sure you’re not financially disadvantaged.

Will I receive compensation?

If the amount is greater than £10, you’ll automatically receive compensation as part of the credit we're applying for any inconvenience it may have caused.

You’ve written asking for my bank details to make a payment, how do I get these to you?

Please don’t email us your bank details; instead call us on 01604 343 925. We’re available Monday – Friday, 8.30am to 5pm. We’ll take your details and process the payment.

I need to provide alternative bank details, who do I need to contact?

You can call us on 01604 343 925. We’re available Monday – Friday, 8.30am to 5pm. We’ll take your updated details and process the payment.

What will you do if I don’t claim, nor want, my payment?

Typically, the amounts are low. Any unclaimed amounts will be passed to the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme. You can find out more about the redress scheme at Your guide to understanding the new redress scheme.
